BJP Opens Account In Manipur Assembly

The BJP Tuesday opened its account in the Manipur Assembly by winning both the seats in the bypolls held on November 21.
Th Biswajit Singh won by a margin of 3,123 votes in the Imphal East seat, defeating Bijoy Koijam of Congress.

The third candidate, Dr Gurumayum Tonsana Sharma of Manipur Democratic People’s Front secured only 54 votes. Khumukcham Joykishan defeated his Congress rival Jyotin Waikhom by a margin of 1907 votes in the Imphal West seat.

Dr Gurumayum Tonsana Sharma of Manipur Democratic People’s Front got 55 votes. Counting preparations began at the DC offices at 0800 hrs.

BJP workers celebrated the victory at the party head office at Imphal. The BJP has now two seats in the 60-member House.
