BJP urges CEO to declare BJD MLA Kishore Tarai’s election illegal
02 February, Bhubaneswar
Odisha unit of the BJP today urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to declare the election of Kendrapara BJD MLA Kishore Chandra Tarai as illegal and cancel his membership in the state Assembly.
A delegation of the party in a memorandum submitted to Chief Electoral Officer said Mr Tarai’s election be considered as illegal for giving wrong information in the affidavit while submitting his nomination paper before the Returning Officer for the 2014 Assembly election.
The memorandum said on March 26,2014 Mr Tarai had submitted an affidavit before the Returning Officer to contest the Kendrapara Assembly seat where he has written his name as Lenin Lenka but signed his name as Kishore Chandra Tarai.
It said as per the direction of the Supreme Court the Election Commission has made submission of affidavits mandatory for candidates contesting election for Assembly and Parliament.
Since Tarai has given wrong information in his affidavit, his Assembly membership should be cancelled, the BJP demanded. The memorandum said while contesting for Pattamundai Assembly seat in 2004, Tarai has mentioned the name of his father as Bimbadhar but in 2014 Assembly election while contesting for the Kendrapara Assembly seat he has written the name of his father as Bimal Chandra Tarai.
The BJP leaders also alleged that the name of Tarai and his wife Babita also figured in the voter list at various places.
Tarai, they said, has committed many election related crimes by manipulating documents and demanded the Chief Electoral Officer to inquire into it, declare his election to the Assembly as illegal and cancel his Assembly membership.
