BOSG To Conduct Awareness Programmes On Orthodontic Problems In Schools In Odisha

Orthodontic cases are increasing and the problems could be treated without surgery to make the face of the child beautiful with attractive smile and increased self esteem, said Dr. Surya Kanta Das.

Dr.Das , one of the three Conveners of the Bhubaneswar Orthodontic Study Group , Odisha and Head of the Department of Orthodotics and Dentofacial Orthopedics of SCB Medical College, Cuttack told newsmen here Saturday that orthodontic problems were mostly hereditary .

He said that 80 per cent of the population wee suffering from dental problems and 40 per cent of them are orthodontic problems like malpositioned teeth, irregular teeth and forwardly placed teeth.

Dr.Das said that If reported early during growth phase of a child, the face of the child can be molded to a beautiful shape by orthodontic treatment , which is affordable even for a common man. The people are suffering due to lack of awareness on orthodontic treatment .

Orthodontic treatment is now available in three dental colleges of Odisha namely SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, Institute of Dental Science and Sum Hospital Bhubaneswar and KIDs, Bhubaneswar.

Das was addressing the media men on occasion of reaching of ‘Smile Torch” in Bhubaneswar on Saturday after 216 days, coverning 21 cities .The torch would stay in Bhubaneswar till 13th August and then would head for its next destination Chennai,Dr.Sarfaraj Kohli said.

To create awareness about orthodontic treatment (braces) among people, the society has planned special activities for the year by spreading the message through ‘Smile Torch’, the Torch bearer Dr.Kohli said.

Dr.Sanjeeb Kumar Sahu , convener BOSG and Head of the Department of Orthodentics ,IDS said that to mark the celebration of the Golden Jubilee year of Indian Orthodontic Society, Bhubaneswar unit would conduct awareness campaign among general populace about orthodontic problems and its treatment .
BOSG would be organizing a 12-day programme , to start with ‘ Smile Run’ in Bhubaneswar on August 2 from Kalinga stadium. The Pachayati Raj Minister Arun Sahoo is schedule to flag off the Smile Run , he said.

During the period, as part of spreading orthodontic awareness,BOSG has also planned to conduct school education programmes for creating awareness about the orthodontic problems and its treatment , smile competition to showcase best smile , conduct art competition related to braces and Dental Camps , Dr.Sahu said.
