Bus services from TN to Karnataka resume after 5 days

After five days of protests over release ofCauvery waters, normalcy returned on the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka border as Inter-state bus services resumed between the two States, from today.

Following this, there was heavy rush at the Chennai MofussilBus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu as passengers gathered in large numbers to board the buses to Bengaluru.

Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation (TNSETC) sources said bus services to Karnataka were operated normally.

For the last five days, bus services to Karnataka were hit in view of the brewing tension over Cauvery and the buses wereoperated only up to Hosur on the Tamil Nadu border.

However, Karnataka State Transport Corporation Buses to several parts of Karnataka from Tamil Nadu were operated normally during these days, except for September nine, whenthe buses were parked at CMBT in view of the one-day bandh called by various pro-Kannada outfits to protest against therelease of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the Cauvery Monitoring Committee will meet in New Delhi tomorrow to decide on the quantum of the water to be released to Tamil Nadu and other States.

The Committee was headed by Union Water Resources SecretaryShashi Shekhar.
The Chief Secretaries of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry, besides officials of the Central Water Commission,were expected to attend the meeting, reports said.
