Central Govt Mulls Imposing Stock Limit On Three Varieties Of Pulses

The Central Government is contemplating to bring three varieties of pulses Urad, Moong and Arhar under the ambit of stock limit regulations of Essential Commodities Act.

Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said, it is expected that the prices of the these three varieties of pulses may go up, therefore the Centre will urge the states to bring them under the stock limit. The Minister also suggested ten per cent import duty on wheat to curb cheap shipments.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi Friday , Paswan was also of the view that Chana, Matar and Masoor should be kept out of the stock limit regulations.

Replying to a query, he said, the Government is working on a long-term policy for sugar sector to ensure timely payment to farmers.

The Food Minister informed that meeting of state food ministers have been convened on 7th of this month to discuss controlling price rice.

He said, implementation of Food Security Act will also be discussed during the meeting. At present, the Act is being implemented in 11 states of the country.

Asked about impact of deficient monsoon on foodgrain production, the Minister said, the government has enough stock to meet the demand under the Public Distribution System.
