Centre Asks Bihar, TN, Rajasthan To Introduce Milk In Mid Day Meal Scheme

Centre has requested the Chief Ministers of Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan to encourage supply of free milk to school children.
In a letter to these states, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh have already implemented the scheme of free supply of milk products to increase the nutritional level in the Mid- Day Meal for school children.
He said that in a review meeting it was found that the State Milk Federations have surplus stock of skimmed milk powder and in the interest of farmers, milk producers and cooperatives, purchase of milk has continued.
Radha Mohan Singh said, milk contributes close to a third of the gross income of rural households and introduction of school milk scheme would help farmers and milk cooperatives.
