Centre To Hike Entry Fee For Taj Mahal With Fixed Visiting Hours

The Central government is reported to have given its nod to a proposal mooted by the Agra Development Authority(ADA) to hike the entry fee for Taj Mahal.

Sources here today said that the proposal to hike the entry fee has been approved by the Centre along with a fixed time period of two hours for the visitors would also be enforced. ” Machines would be put on the entry and exit points to record the time of their stay inside the 17th century monument and visitors taking extra time would be charged accordingly,” sources here said.

ADA had in December last sent the proposal to the Centre to enhance the ticket rate which is charged in the name of toll tax from domestic and foreign tourists to the Taj Mahal.

At present, the rate is Rs 20 for Indians, which is shared equally between the ADA and the ASI and under the new proposal, it will be Rs 40. For the foreign tourists, the ticket will now be Rs 1,000 from Rs 750, out of which the ASI gets Rs 250 and the ADA Rs 500. Entry for children below 15 years is free
