Congress , BJP Demands Judicial Inquiry Into Death Of Girl Resisting Molestation Attempt In A Bus Owned By Punjab CM

30 April, New Delhi

Congress and BSP Thursday demanded a judicial enquiry into an incident in Punjab where a girl died and her mother was hospitalized after they jumped from a running bus resisting molestation attempts by a group of men.

Congress General Secretary-in- charge of Punjab, Shakeel Ahmed said, the incident is shameful and condemnable. He claimed that the bus belonged to a company owned by Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and his family.

Ahmed expressed doubts saying one cannot expect that the ruling SAD government will act in an impartial manner against the culprit.

Expressing concern over the incident, BSP Chief Mayawati said it is unfortunate that the co-passengers and the bus staff did not raise their voices against the heinous act at that time.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament, she demanded judicial probe into the incident and stringent action against people responsible for the brutal act.

Ms. Mayawati expressed apprehension that the state government will not do any justice as the bus is owned by Chief Minister’s family.

Meanwhile, BJP has also expressed serious concern over the incident. Talking to media outside Parliament, party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said that government is concerned over such type of incidents and questioned the silence of the passengers who were also travelling in the bus at that point of time.

She stressed the need for requisite change in the mindset of the people to curb such incidents. The incident took place in Moga district in Punjab Wednesday in which two persons have been arrested.
