Congress Questions Efficacy Of Narendera Modi Led Govt. At Center

18 June, New Delhi

Congress Thursday said it is not alone which is questioning the Narendra Modi led government at the Centre, but even senior BJP leadership is raising questions on the efficacy of the government.

Party spokesperson Tom Vadakkan cited BJP patriarch L K Advani’s statement that Emergeny can happen again in India as the political leadership has some shortcomings. Vadakkan said a Prime Minister who promised to bring back black money stashed abroad is now being found shielding persons who hold black money.

He expressed surprise that Narendra Modi had no knowledge that Lalit Modi, a fugitive, is being protected extra constitutionally under his nose. He said Prime Minister’s silence is deafening and he needs to explain his stand to the country.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani had said in an interview to an English daily that he cannot say political leadership is not mature, but he is not convinced due to shortcomings. He said there are no signs in Indian polity which assure him that Emergency can not be imposed in India again.

Aam Aadmi Party convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Mr Advani has correctly said that emergency cannot be ruled out. In a tweet, he asked if Delhi is the first experiment towards this end.

Meanwhile, JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said Mr Advani is the senior most leader of the country and if such a senior leader has raised concerns, it is a serious matter.

However, BJP spokesperson M J Akbar said Advani may have been referring to institutions rather than individuals.

He said he does not think there is any chance of emergency like situation.
