Consensus on New Delhi Declaration at BRICS Summit reached due to year-long engagement at various levels: MEA

The External Affairs Ministry today said that the consensus on the New Delhi Declaration at the BRICS Summit was reached due to the year-long engagement at various levels during India’s BRICS Chairship.

Addressing the media this evening at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Secretary ER, Sudhakar Dalela, said adoption of the New Delhi Declaration was among the defining outcomes of India’s Chairship. He added that India’s Chairship has been people-centric.

Mr Dalela thanked BRICS nations for their collaboration during India’s Chairship. He added that there are more than fifty outcomes from India’s Chairship of BRICS. He said BRICS nations worked together to deliver practical, development-oriented outcomes.

He said that at today’s session, BRICS leaders spoke from their respective national perspectives, but there was a broad convergence on the need to strengthen multilateralism and to make global governance institutions more representative, inclusive, effective, and responsive to today’s realities.
