Diwali being celebrated with religious fervour

Diwali — the festival of lights, which also symbolises victory good over evil, is being celebrated throughout the country and by the Indian diasporas worldwide with religious fervour and gaiety. Most leaders, including President and the Prime Minster, have wished the people a very happy Diwali. The appeals to make this Diwali a green one also have their impact on the people.

The news of Diwali celebrations are pouring in from different parts of the country. So far, there is no information about any major untoward incidents taken place due to fireworks as part of Diwali.For the first time, the United Nations celebrated India’s festival of lights, Diwali at its Headquarters in New York.

Wishing the people a very happy Diwali to the countrymen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his message, dedicated this Diwali to the valour of jawans guarding the country’s borders. ”The sacrifices of the jawans have touched my heart and mind,” the PM told the nation in his monthly broadcast on ‘Mann Ki Baat’ as well.

Besides, Prime Minister celebrated Diwali Sunday with the Indo Tibet Border Police (ITBP) jawans in a remote and strategic area in Himachal Pradesh, adjoining the Indo-China border and later made an unscheduled trip to a village, Chango.

Modi also interacted with the Dogra Scouts and the Army at Sumdoh, some 330-km from Shimla and located on the border of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts.
