DLEP Helps Reduce Power Bill For Conumers In UP

The ongoing programme under Demand Side Management Scheme-based Lighting Efficient Programme (DLEP) has turned into over Rs 192 crore reduction in electricity bills for consumers in Uttar Pradesh besides bringing down the prices of LED.
The LED bulb prices have come down from Rs 310 in February, 2014 to Rs 73 in June, 2015, a reduction of over 75 per cent, claims officials sources here today.
Sources said the Government has ensured transparency and encouraged competition by using e-procurement of goods and services. This has resulted in significant reduction in transaction cost and time and enhanced process efficiency.
This has also resulted in much larger participation of bidders thereby increasing competition and reducing the cost of LED bulbs and street lights. The number of bidders that participate in the LED procurement has gone up by 3 times now as compared to in 2013-14.
As of now,Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Union Energy ministry, has distributed 2.3 crore LED bulbs in 83 towns and cities across the country. EESL has already procured 9.5 crore LED in the current year and is looking at additional procurement of another 6 crore LED bulbs.
EESL officials here told UNI that in Uttar Pradesh alone, over 37 lakh LED bulbs have been distributed under the DELP scheme.
The programme has been implemented in fifteen districts in Uttar Pradesh, with 38,000 in Pilibhit, 2.65 lakh in Bareilly, 7000 in Hardoi, 1000 in Unnao, 9.38 lakh in Kanpur, 34,000 in Fatehpur, 43,000 in Jaunpur, 10,000 in Kaushambi, 4.62 lakh in Allahabad, 6.38 lakh in Varanasi, 71,000 in Ghazipur, 29,000 in Pratapgarh, 53,000 in Basti, 1.04 lakh in Bahraich and 10.38 lakh in Lucknow.
They claimed that consumers in Uttar Pradesh have seen a cumulative reduction of over Rs 192 crore in their electricity bill from the use of the energy efficient LED bulbs distributed under the scheme.
As per the statistic, the LED distribution programme has made annual energy savings of 2.96 billion units while in UP it was 2.96 million units. This has also led to reduction of peak load of consumptionwhich was 762 megawatt at the national level and 123 megawatt in UP alone.
Similarly, the LED uses has reduced the bills of the consumers at the national level of Rs 1178 crores while in UP it is Rs 192 crores. The estimate annual greenhouse gas emission reductions were also to the tune of 5.17 million tonnes of CO2 at the national level and 843,000 tonnes of CO2 in UP. Sources said the Central Government has also emphasized on the need to deliver quality and has ensured that the quality of LED bulbs is not compromised.
“The target of the programme is to replace all the 77 crore incandescent bulbs sold in India by LEDs. This will result in reduction of 20,000 MW load, savings of 100 billion units of energy and Green House Gas (GHG) emissions savings of 80 million tons every year. The annual saving in electricity bills of consumers will be Rs. 40,000 crore, considering average tariff of Rs. 4 per unit,” a senior officials said.
