EC To Link EPIC with Adhaar Number Ensure Error Free and to stop duplication

Election Commission will link electoral photo Identity card with Aadhar number to stop duplication and to make electoral rolls error free. Briefing media in New Delhi today, Chief Election Commissioner H S Brahma said, the Commission will launch a nationwide drive from 3rd of next month to make the electoral rolls totally error free. He said, around 10 to 12 per cent entries in electoral roll are duplicate. Mr Brahma said, the drive will be completed by 15th of August this year.

Mr Brahma said, the voters will be asked to voluntarily apply for removal of their names from multiple constituencies and such cases will be disposed off within 15 days. He said, if a person deliberately registers as a voter in multiple constituencies, he or she can be punished under provisions of the IPC and election laws. The Chief Election Commissioner said voting through internet could be a possibility in the future and the first step in this direction is to make electoral rolls error free.
