Five Maoists Arrested In Tamil Nadu

Five activists of the banned organisation CPI (Maoist) have been nabbed from Karimaththampatti in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu.

The arrested activists include a top Maoist leader Roopesh and his wife Shaina, who were operating in the Kerala-Karnataka border region.

According to Police, Roopesh was leading the armed militant groups in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, from his hideout in the Western Ghat hill areas, for the past five years.

They said, the activists had been persuading the tribals for armed rebellion against the State. Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the arrest is a major breakthrough in the Maoist hunt. The arrests were made through a joint operation by the Kerala,Tamil Nadu and Andhra Police.

Police have been keeping a close watch on the Maoist groups for quite some time. After questioning by the Police, the arrested activists will be brought to Kerala,for further interrogation.
