Govt. Of India Slams Opposition For March To Rashtrapati Bhawan Protesting Land Bill

The Union Government Tuesday criticized the opposition for its march to the Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening against the Land Acquisition Bill.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Rural Development Minister Birender Singh said, the government has already brought out nine amendments in the Bill to safeguard the interests of the farmers.

The Minister said, opposition parties are unnecessarily making hue and cry over the Bill to gain political mileage. Singh said, suggestions were incorporated in the Bill after having detailed consultations with the farming groups and political parties.

He said, the Narendra Modi government is completely working in the interest of farmers and will never take any step against them.

Replying to a query, the Minister said, the government is trying to bring the bill in the Rajya Sabha as soon as possible. Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad categorically stated that there would be no compromise on the Land Acquisition Bill.

Azad told reporters that his party wants no changes in the 2013 Land Bill, passed by the UPA government. He made it clear that the Congress will not support the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’ Brien said, the current form of the Bill is dangerous. He said, the opposition is united and against the Bill as it is completely anti-farmer.
