Grand Alliance Won Because Of “Better” Social Base: BJP

8 November, Patna

The BJP today admitted that the NDA suffered defeat in the Bihar state Assembly election due to its failure to create a “social base” which could effectively counter grand alliance at the hustings.

Former Deputy CM and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi told news persons here that the grand secular alliance was successful in reaching out to a wide spectrum of social groups (castes) during the Assembly election.

But the BJP could not do so. He claimed that the NDA contested the election with full unity but still the grand alliance managed to put a good show because of its “broader social equation”.

Sushil Kumar Modi said he and his party respected the people`s mandate which gave a clear majority to the grand alliance in the poll. He saidit was good for the state that people gave a clear cut verdict in the election. Thanking NDA voters, he said the leaders had launched a comprehensive campaign but it could not produce the desired result.

He said the election result would be analysed in detail to understand what went wrong while formulating thepoll strategy. He said the NDA would play a constructive role to the grand alliance government for the development of the state.
To a query, the BJP leader said since the RJD had won more number of seats, its chief Lalu Prasad would play the role of “king maker”.
