Haryana To Frame Law Making Registration of Pregnancy Compulsory , Prize For Information on Female Foeticide

Haryana Government is contemplating on framing a law under which registration of pregnancy would be made compulsory within first three months of pregnancy.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that aim of the law is to check female foeticide in the state. The declining sex ratio is a matter of shame for Haryana, Vij said. .

He said that government has also decided to give cash prize of one lakh rupees to a person giving information about sex determination cases and of those indulging in practice of female foeticide. He said that the name of the informer would be kept secret.

Vij said that intelligence wing of police would also keep eye on those indulging in this act and give inputs.

He said besides all this, next month inspections would be conducted on ultra sound centers in the state by joint team comprising Judicial Magistrate, a police officer and doctor.
