India Foreign Minister Sushama Swaraj Reaching Colombo Today Ahead of Modi’s Visit

Foreign Minister of India Sushma Swaraj will be arriving in Colombo this evening to prepare for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Island nation next week. She will be received at the Bandaranaike International Airport by Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith Perera.

With a deep understanding of issues involved in bilateral relations, Ms Swaraj will finalize the agenda for Prime Minister’s discussions with President Maithripala and Prime Minister Ranil Wickermasinghe when he arrives on a two day visit next Friday.

During the discussions, Ms Swara is likely to stress on trade and commerce, solution to fisheries issue and steps needed for political reconciliation with the Tamil people of North Sri Lanka.

Ms Swaraj visited Colombo last time in 2012 as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. At the time, Ms Swaraj had extensive discussions with leaders of the ruling and opposition parties.
