India Govt. Launches Contest Inviting Suggestions From Public For PMO Mobile app

The government Wednesday launched a contest for taking suggestions from the public to develop a mobile application for the Prime Minister’s Office.
The application, which will be developed in association with Google, is likely to be out in two months. The contest aims to seek suggestions from the public regarding the structure and content of the application.
Launching the contest, Communication and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the whole MyGov platform of government of India is for the citizen engagement at widest level.
He said, said the Centre is using crowd sourcing model to get suggestions from the general public and later incorporating them while forming government policies.
Prasad said, the Railway and the Union budgets used suggestions given by public including proposal of bio toilets, online payment facility for food, ideal railway station by involvement of MPs in railways, gold monetisation and sovereign bonds schemes and the need for a law to tackle benami property among others. He added that this shows extraordinary commitment of the government to use social media for social good.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice President and Managing Director of Google India and South-East Asia, Rajan Anandan said, they are very excited to be a part of the Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India.
He said, the app will be made in India and it will be the most used mobile app in the country. He said Google is committed to end the digital divide in the globe.He said no other government has taken such initiative what PMO has taken to engage the entire nation.
As announced last year, Google and MyGov have got together to build a comprehensive PMO mobile app. The content will go live today at 5pm on MyGov.in.
While speaking at the NASSCOM event on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned that he is planning to invite ideas from the public for developing a mobile app for his office and urged everyone to give their suggestions.
