India launches Malaria elimination framework

India has launched the National Framework for Malaria Elimination in India (2016-2030) to eliminate malaria from the country. Informing this, Health Minister J P Nadda told the Rajya Sabha that the new framework encouraged all the states with different levels of malaria transmission to interrupt indigenous transmission of malaria by WHO global target.

This, the Centre had done, by categorising the states under 3 categories, based on (Annual Parasite Incidence) API: Category 1 (elimination), Category 2 (pre elimination) and category 3 (intensified malaria control), with focus on area specific activities with stratification from macro to micro level.
Further, the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) have been trained and provided rapid diagnostic test kits (RDT) for diagnosis of malaria, he said in a written reply.
