Indira Gandhi Martyrdom Day not to be observed at Shakti Sthal due to bird flu

The martyrdom of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi will not be observed at ‘Shakti Sthal’ this year as it has been closed due to bird flu, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) said Saturday.

”Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s Martyrdom Day — October 31, 2016 — will not be observed at the Shakti Sthal this year as it has been closed due to bird flu,” the statement by the AICC said.

The memorial of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Shakti Sthal, had to be closed earlier this week following the death of several ducks there due to avian influenza. Nearly 69 birds have died in the capital till now due to bird flu.

After visiting Shakti Sthal and meeting the officials there, Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai earlier in the week said the memorial will remain shut till the lab report of the dead birds comes out.
