Industrialist Adi Godrej’s wife Parmeswar passes away in Mumbai

Philanthropist and socialite Parmeswar Godrej, wife of Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej, passed away while being treated for an illness in Breach Candy Hospital here.

She was undergoing treatment for a degenerative lung disease in the Hospital, where she breathed her last late last night. Doctors also suspected pneumonia.
She was 70.

A formidable presence in the country’s ‘Page 3’ circuit, more so for her impeccable style and glamour, Godrej was one of India’s first air hostesses.

She was also the face of several philanthropic initiatives, including promoting awareness for AIDS. She had also launched the Heroes project, along with Hollywood actor Richard Gere and with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The project aimed to mobilise eminent people and the media to fight HIV and AIDS in India.

Godrej was also known for her association with the likes of Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan and American talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

She will also be remembered for her contribution towards the improvement of women’s and children’s health in India.

Celebrities and politicians, including Milind Deora, took to Twitter to offer their condolence on her death.
