International Buyer Sellers Meet -2015 Begins In J&K

The 6th International Buyer Seller Meet – 2015 began Saturday at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.

The event is being organized by Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry, an apex body for trade, commerce and industry in Kashmir and sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. State Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed inaugurated the buyer-seller meet and visited around 80 stalls put up at the venue.

Sheikh Khalid Abdur Rahman from Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in New Delhi was one among special dignitaries from abroad, present on the occasion. The special attraction of the event is live demonstration sessions by artisans and weavers.

The State Department of Industries & Commerce besides Handicrafts School of Design will also showcase traditional, heritage and cultural art. The Meet is expected to help in understanding the challenges of this sector with which livelihood of lacs of people is associated for centuries.

The three day international buyer-seller meet is an initiative to directly approach international buyers to sell centuries old world famous handicrafts including paper machie, carpets, kashmiri pashmina shawls, kashmiri kani shawls, kashmir sozni, wood carvings, chain stitch rugs, crewel embroidered items besides walnut kernels, saffron, honey and other exquisite items.

Around 100 buyers from more than 21 countries including United States, Germany, Europe, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Egypt and countries of South East Asia are participating in the event. Pertinently, three day international Travel Mart was organized during this month by State Tourism Department to promote tourism in the state in which 185 domestic and 24 international delegates had participated.
