KB Singh Takes Charge As New Odisha DGP

Kanwar Brajesh Singh of 1985 IPS batch Sunday took over as the new Director General of Police (DGP) replacing Sanjeeb Marik who went on a long leave before his retirement on December 31.

Prior to his new assignment, Singh was working as the director of the State Vigilance on being promote to the DGP rank this year. Mr Singh was first joined as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Berhampur and subsequently appointed as the SP of Ganjam.

He had also served as the Superintendent of police in Nuapada, Nabarangour and Koraput. In 2006, he had gone on Central deputation and worked in various capacities in the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

Talking to mediapersons after assuming the new charge, Singh said his priority would be to bridge the gap between police and common man and to see that the police would be made more responsible and accessible to the common man.

Singh said he would try his best to curb the Maoist activities in the state and ensure developmental activities in the Naxal-dominated areas.The new DGP added that he would try to bring the people who have been misguided by the red rebels to return to the mainstream and lead a normal life.
