Killing of Rape Accused Case :12 Hour Bandh Hits Normal Life In Three Districts In Assam

The dawn to dusk 12-hour bandh, called to protest against the lynching of the rape accused in Dimapur ,Nagaland, paralyzed normal life Sunday in three districts of Barak Valley.

The lynched Syed Farid Khan was, meanwhile, buried in Karimganj’s Bosla village amidst tight security this morning.

The bandh was called by several political, social and business organisations. The bandh was peaceful and near-total in most part with educational institutions and banks remaining closed due to today being Sunday.
All shops and market places were closed and vehicular traffic remained off the road. There was no report of any untoward incident from the three districts -Karimganj, Cachar and Hailakandi of the Valley.

Security was tight particularly in Karimganj district as Khan hailed from the district. The funeral was held this morning with tight security.
A huge turnout was reported including former Minister, representatives of political parties and district administrations. Victim’s father was defence personnel and two of his brothers are also in the Indian Army
