Lalu`s Remarks On Former DGP Evokes Sharp Reaction

The BJP-led NDA Wednesday fired a salvo at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by taking a leaf out of RJD chief Lalu Prasad`s veiled criticism of Kumar on the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The BJP in particular lapped up the remark of Prasad against a former DGP who according to the RJD chief, dented the morale of the police while heading the state police force during the second term of Kumar.

Setting the tone, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said the RJD chief was only targeting Kumar when he accused former Director Generalof Police Abhayanand of demoralising the police force by asking them not to act against lawbreakers.

Prasad had obliquely referred yesterday to large scale hooliganism resorted by supporters of chief of former private army of landlords, Ranvir Sena after his murder four years ago and how the police under the leadership of the former DGP remained ineffective during it.

Modi said the way Prasad gave his suggestions to Kumar for improving lawand order situation in the state, it became clear that he had already donned the mantle ofsuper CM of the state.

The BJP leader said Prasad had also tried to send a message that Mr Kumar himself was responsible for serious crimes committed in the state during the last 10 years since he was holding the portfolio of the Home Department too.

Even by referring to the non-functional jammers fitted at jails across the state, Prasadwas putting Kumar in dock for various crimes being committed on instruction of dreaded criminals lodged in prisons, Modi added.

He said Prasad also wanted to make Kumar understand the fact that he would be remote controlling his government as he had asked people to inform him directly if they were threatened by criminals in any way.
