Land Should Not Be Acquired Without Farmers’ Consent: Punjab CM Badal

NDA’s ally, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has told the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Land Acquisition Bill that land should not be acquired without farmers’ consent.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said Saturday that SAD has already made its stand crystal clear to the JPC regarding the proposed Right to fair Compensation and Transparency the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Ordinance, thereby pleading that not even an inch of land should be acquired by government without consent of farmers and land owners.

Badal, who is also SAD patron said on the second day of his Sangat Darshan Programme at Jandiala Guru assembly segment, that all SAD MPs in Lok Sabha have already submitted a detailed memorandum to the JPC chairman in this regard.

He said, likewise, land should only be acquired for public sector projects and the government should not get into acquisition for private entities.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee on land will seek more time to submit its report. The Chairman of the Committee Surinder Singh Ahluwalia said in Kolkata that the Committee will seek a week’s time to complete its pending work and submit its report before the House.

As the panel was set up by a motion of the House the time extension has to be taken moving a motion in this regard in the Lok Sabha. The Committee has been mandated to submit its report on the first day of the monsoon session of the Parliament which begins on 21st of this month.
