Longest Bathing Ghat Comes Up In Rajahmundry

The construction of longest bathing ghat in the country was completed on the bank of the river Godavari for ensuing Pushkarams and more than 70,000 pilgrims can have holy dip at the ghat at Rajahmundry in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to newspersons here, Chief Engineer Haribabu said, the 1.127 km long Kotilingala bathing ghat was constructed at a cost of Rs.14.84 crore, at which, over 70,000 pilgrims would have their holy dip in the river Godavari,

The Godavari Pushkaram is performed once in 12 years. It would begin on July 14 and concludes on July 25. The Andhra Pradesh Government has taken the initiative to provide facilities to the pilgrims. As many as seven lakh pilgrims can have holy dip at the bathing ghat from morning to evening in a day, Haribabu said.

Earlier, the bathing ghat length was 318 meters. It was expanded to 1.127 kms now to enable lakhs of pilgrims to have their holy dip here, official sources said.

One more bathing ghat, especially for VVIPs was also constructed and was christened as Saraswathi Bathing Ghat. It is expected that over 12 lakh devotees would have holy dip in Godavari every day during the 12-day Pushkaram. For the convenience of pilgrims, 264 bathing ghats were constructed in East Godavari and West Godavari districts, officials added.
