Mary Kom Urges People To Join Hands In Fight Cardiac Diseases , Cancer

Renowned woman boxer, Mary Kom on Saturday urged the people to come forward and join hands in the fight against cardiac diseases and cancer.
She was addressing a press conference at Don Bosco Technical School in Shillong, in connection with an awareness campaign to combat cancer and cardiac diseases amongst women in Meghalaya, Mary Kom said that she would not like to talk much on technical aspects of medical science, but only to make the women aware of the need to take preventive measures against these diseases.
World Women’s Boxing Champion, Mary Kom also said that there are a large number of people suffering from cancer and heart-related diseases the North Eastern Region and the awareness level about these diseases is still very in the society. She said that much has to be done in educating the people about the prevalent diseases.
Speaking about her boxing career, Mary Kom said in the initial period of her career, very few people took note of it and short into the limelight after winning gold and silver medal in the international arena.
She added that the people of the North Eastern Region have enormous sports talent in other disciplines and they need encouragement and support. She, however said that sheer determination and will power are the major factors for success.
