Mother Teresa’s sainthood: Missionaries of Charity plans thanks giving mass

“Excited” by the long cherished news of Mother Teresa’s elevation to sainthood, the Mother’s House, headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity, plans a big thanks giving holy mass

.”We have received an official confirmation from Vatican that Pope Franscis has approved Mother’s sainthood and set September 4 as the date. We are very excited and happy about it,” Missionaries of Charity Spokesperson Sunita Kumar said.

Pope Francis today approved Mother Teresa’s elevation to sainthood and set September 4 as the date for her canonisation.The announcement was expected after Francis in December approved a second miracle attributed to Mother Teresa’s intercession the final hurdle to make her a saint. The actual date falls on the eve of the 19th anniversary of her death.

The Mother’s elevation came after the Vatican recognised a second miracle.Affectionately known as the “saint of the gutter” for her unconditional love for the poor, abandoned and marginalised, Mother Teresa earned several international honors, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.Born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on Aug. 26, 1910, in Skopje, Macedonia, Mother Teresa joined the Loreto order of nuns in 1928. In 1946, while traveling by train from Calcutta to Darjeeling, she was inspired to found the Missionaries of Charity order.
