Odisha to become manufacturing hub of East- Jamir

The investor friendly policy and the ease of doing business frame work have made Odisha a competitive and attractive manufacturing hub of the East, Odisha Governor S C Jamir said here Tuesday .
Addressing the inaugural day of the budget session of the state Assembly, Dr Jamir said the commissioning of the country’s largest steel plant of Tata Steel at Kalinganagar has reassured the faith of the investors in the state.He said with the development of three large investment regions at Kalinganagar, Paradeep and Dhamra, the state has become the most preferred investment destination.
Odisha is also developing a good number of sector specific parks to encourage investment in focus sectors.The Governor said the state has been able to attract investments of more than Rs 70,000 crore during the last investors meet at the ‘Make in India’ campaign held in Mumbai. Majority of the investment came in the non-mineral sectors.
The state, Dr Jamir said, has come up with Odisha food processing policy-2013 and Odisha export policy 2014 to promote food processing in a big way and boost export promotion.He said so far more than 1,60,000 MSME units have been established in the state with an investment of more than Rs 7,900 crore and providing employment opportunities to more than 8.5 lakh youths of the state.The government has also facilitated establishment of 32,938 units with parallel employment opportunities for 1,01,885 youths.
The Governor said the state government has targeted to create 1.5 lakh MSMEs with an employment potential of four lakh more persons within the next five years.The state government, he said, was also trying to strengthen the export promotion and marketing directorate, Odisha small industries corporation and Odisha state financial corporation to establish an integrated framework to augment growth and sustenance of MSME sector.
Dr Jamir said the state government has plan to establish seven new training-the-trainers centres at strategic locations, 13 new it is, 72 skill development centres.Under Chief Minister’s employment generation programme, the government aims to upgrade the skill of 150 youths from every gram panchayat and ensure their placement.The state government, the Governor said, has targeted to train 9.3 lakh youths across 6,234 gram panchayats and 1.7 lakh youths from urban areas in next four years.
