MP CM Agrees For CBI Probe Into Vyapam scam; SC to hear petitions seeking CBI probe on July 9

In a dramatic U-turn Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has agreed for a CBI probe in the Vyapam case.

Briefing media after a Cabinet meeting in Bhopal today, Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the state government will request the High Court to allow CBI investigation in the alleged frauds in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board case.

The Chief Minister said that CBI will also investigate the mysterious deaths of more than 40 people related to the case.

He said, he has full faith in the High Court-monitored Special Task Force probe, but he is ordering the CBI probe following the demand from various sections of society.

He said, when the case comes before the Supreme Court, the state government will extend its support for CBI probe.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court today agreed to hear on Thursday the petitions filed by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and others for a CBI probe into the Vyapam scam.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu, agreed to give an urgent hearing and posted the matter for July 9th. Many activists, lawyers, politicians belonging to opposition parties, and whistleblower of the scam had approached the court for a CBI probe.

They alleged that the state government appointed SIT is not conducting the probe in a fair manner.

They said that the deaths of more than 40 people related to the scam raise suspicion that they are being killed to protect influential people involved in the scam.
