NCSC Asks Punjab Govt. To Depose ATR in Cases Of Oppression On Dalits

National Commission for Scheduled Caste( NCSC) has asked the Additional Director General of Punjab Police, ADGP, Crime and ADGP Law and Order to depose the action taken report in various cases of oppression on Dalits in the state.

Both the senior officers have been asked to depose with the action taken report before the commission at Chandigarh, tomorrow, Thursday. This include the recent Moga incident in which a Dalit woman and her teen-aged daughter were allegedly molested and thrown off a running bus, leaving the girl dead and mother seriously wounded.

Giving various instances of oppression on Dalits in the state, Vice Chairman of the Commission Rajkumar Verka has said that the situation of law and order is deteriorating in Punjab and mostly Dalits are being targeted.

He alleged that some of the police officers are giving free hand to the accused on political interference instead of providing justice to the affected families. In a press statement, Verka said that now the commission is keeping an eye on all those police officers who are giving patronage to those accused of oppression on Dalits.

The Commission will take strict action against them. An action taken report sought by the National Commission from Moga Deputy Commissioner in the Moga incident is likely to be submitted by next week.

Meanwhile, ADGP-Crime, has submitted a status report on the unfortunate Moga incident to the Punjab State SC Commission, yesterday. The state commission has recommended to Punjab government to provide grant of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1.20 lakh as per Scheduled Caste Act to the family of the victim.
