Nitish Sweeps Back To Power In Bihar Dealing Blow To Modi

In a watershed election which is likely to change the political complexion of the country, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar swept back to power in Bihar Sunday dealing a blow to his bete noire and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Hitting a hat-trick of Chief Ministerships for Nitish Kumar and marking a historic comeback of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and much sought after breather for Congress, the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ of Janata Dal (United) Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress scored a landslide victory with 178 seats in the 243-member state Assembly in the five-phased elections.
Of the Grad alliance seats, while RJD bagged highest number of 80 seats, JD(U) came second with 71 seats and Congress got 27 sets.
The BJP led NDA got only 59 seats and six went to others.BJP bagged only 53 seats while LJP got 3 and RLSP and HAM got 2 and one each respectively. .
NDA dreams of obtaining smooth passage for its key reforms in the Upper House of Parliament were swept asunder by its crippling defeat in the key Hindi heartland state.
Thousands of Grand Alliance supporters burst into jubilation after the victory.
MahanayakNitish Kumar took part in the celebrations on beats of drums and lighting of crackers.
Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi were among those who congratulated Nitish Kumar on the Grand alliance victory in polls.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in the national Capital.
Singh drove to the Sangh’s headquarters in Jhandewalan and held parleys with the RSS supremo.
No official word was available immediately over the discussions between the two leaders. However, it is believed that the developments in Bihar figured in the conversation and the duo discussed the future course of action in view of the NDA’s dismal performance in the polls.
