Noted Odia poet Sourindra Barik passes away

Noted Odia poet and Kendra Sahitya Akademi awardee Sourindra Barik passed away following prolonged illness at a hospital in the capital city today.

He was 79.Writers, poets, intellectuals and several well wishers from various walks of life condoled the death of Barik and offered their last tribute to the departed soul at his residence near Punama Gate.

The poet after completing his Masters degree in English literature joined the teaching profession and retired as the Chairman, Bureau of Textbook Preparation and Production.He was honoured with the Kendriya Sahitya Akademy award, Odisha sahitya Akademi award and hosts of other awards for his valuable contribution to the odia literature.

A prolific writer Barik has authored several books, literary criticism and translated many books in Odia language. His publications included Samanya Kathan Upabharat ,Akasha Pari Nibida, Gunugunu Chitrapata, Luhathu Bi Antaranga, Chahala Chhaire Ghadie, Anubharata, Ame Duhein and Padha Ba Napadha.
