OMC sets a target to produce 6.55million tones ore during the fiscal

Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has targeted to produce of 6.55 million tonnes of ore during the current financial year, OMC Managing Director Girish SN said here Tuesday.

Gisrish said the total mineral production of OMC was 5.6 MT by mid-February. A target has been set to produce 6.5 Mt by end of next month.

Steps are being taken to enhance the production of OMC to 10 MT in coming financial year.

He said plans are on to increase production in the Kurmita and Gandhamardan iron ore mines in a mechanised format.

Official sources said the mechanised mining would be implemented soon.

Girish said out of 35 mines allotted to OMC four gemstone mines were found financially unviable. The meeting chaired by state Chief Secretary A P Padhi to review the production of all the mines under OMC today decided to surrender these mines to the Ministry.

Five projects namely Daitari iron ore mine, Gandhamardan Block-B, Kurmitar Iron Ore mine, South Kaliapani Chromite Mines and Sukrangi Chromite Mines have already been put to production.
