Odd-Even Formula To Return But Only After Solving Major Problems: AAP Govt

The Delhi government Monday announced that the odd-even car driving scheme is likely to be implemented again though only after finding solutions to the problems that came during the trial.

The decision was taken at a meeting in which officials from the Transport Department, Environment Department, Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) participated.

The experts and feedback from the public suggested that the odd-even formula should be followed again as the pollution came down during the 15 days’ trial but only after solving two major concerns related with this scheme, Transport Minister Gopal Rai told mediapersons here.

One of the major concerns is how children could be transported back to their homes, who do not use school buses. The other is that the sale of second-hand cars could increase if we make it permanent, he said.

The schools were made to shut down during the trial period.

The Delhi government initiated a formula in which the movement of private cars was restricted on alternate days. Only the even-numbered cars were allowed to ply on roads on even dates and vice-versa.

Once the solutions to these problems will be found, the date of the implementation of the next phase of the odd-even formula will be announced, he added.

Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted that the city would seen a comeback of the odd-even scheme.
