Odisha Govt Dismissed 408 Doctors From Service

The Odisha government Friday dismissed 408 doctors for remaining absent in their work place for long period.

The State Health and Family Welfare department had earlier initiated departmental proceedings against 412 absentee doctors and published their names in the newspapers.

These doctors were asked to appear before the department to justify their long absence in their place of postings.

Only four out of 412 contested the departmental proceedings initiated against them and the state government decided to consider their case.

The remaining 408 doctors, however, were dismissed from their service Friday, a statement by the Chief Ministers office here said.

Official sources said the long absence of these doctors had affected the health services badly.

The Odisha State Public Service Commission has also approved the government action against these absentee doctors, sources said.
