Parliament Impasse Continues For 4th Day Over Lalit Modi Row, Other Issues

Both Houses of parliament Friday have been adjourned till Monday on Lalit Modi episode and other issues amid opposition’s continued demand for the resignation of top BJP leaders including External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

The Opposition has been continuously raising the issue since the Monsoon Session began on Tuesday. Both the Houses have been witnessing repeated adjournments amid noisy scenes for the fourth day consecutively.

The Lok Sabha could not transact any business as opposition members stalled the proceedings as soon as it met for the day.

Several opposition members have given notices for suspension of the Question Hour, which were rejected by Speaker Sumitra Majahan. Later, opposition members from Congress and TRS trooped into the well of the House. Congress members were shouting slogans on various corruption issues. Amid din, Speaker adjourned the House for the day.

The Rajya Sabha, which witnessed two adjournments in the pre-lunch session, could not transact any business except the laying of papers. The House was first adjourned till noon, and then till 2.30 PM and finally for the day as opposition members continued to raise the issue forcing the Chair to adjourn it.
