PM asks Officials to Identify Parameters of Smart Cities

The Prime Minister has called for identifying parameters to be laid down for smart cities.  Narendra Modi while chairing a high-level meeting of government officials on the the smart city initiative in New Delhi today, asked them to identify the basics of infrastructure, quality of life, and citizen-centric services which are essential to cities.

He said, the cities should be identified as hubs of economic activity.  Modi said, the focus of the city development should be on–waste to wealth–which is solid-waste management and waste-water treatment.

The Prime Minister also asked the officials to visualize urban-dependent population, in addition to urban population, while planning for cities. Officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministries Urban Development, Information Technology, were present on the occasion. The meeting was part of a series of consultations on smart cities.
