PM Modi stresses on Quality Manpower And Use of Technology To Bring About Quality Change In Judiciary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stressed the need for quality manpower and technology to bring about quality change in Judiciary .

Inaugurating the joint conference of Chief Justices of High Courts and Chief Ministers of States in New Delhi , prime Minister said there is a lot of responsibility on judges as God has made them to carry out divine functions .
He said ordinary citizens have a lot of expectations from judges and added “ we need to ensure that quality manpower is available”.
Judiciary should be both powerful and perfect . This is the place that is trusted by the common people, he said

Prime Minister said there is need to create good law institutions , keeping in mind the needs of the future .

The quicker we get technology in this field , the easier it is to bring about a quality change , Prime Minister said.

The conference is being periodically held to address pressing issues relating to the administration of justice in the country.

Chief Justice of India HL Dattu presided over the conference. It will mainly focus on expeditious disposal of pending cases in High Courts and subordinate courts.

As many as 2.64 crore cases are pending in Subordinate Courts and and 42 lakh cases in High Courts.

The development of infrastructure, judicial reforms, application of information technologies in courts and specific steps required for reduction of arrears and ensuring speedy trial will also be discussed at the conference.

The role of the justice system in improving the ease of doing business in the country is also on the agenda.

The 14th Finance Commission has endorsed a number of steps aimed at improving the justice delivery system at an estimated cost of 9,749 crore rupees over the next 5 years.
