PM Modi Urges China To Reconsider Approach On Contentious Issues Affecting Relationship

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed the need for China to reconsider its approach on some of the issues that hold the two countries back from realizing full potential of their ties.

In a statement issued after his talks with the Chinese Premier in Beijing, Modi said he suggested that China should take a strategic and long term view of the ties between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said, he found Chinese leadership responsive to contentious issues between the two countries. Modi said, both the countries have reiterated their commitment to make all efforts to maintain peace and tranquility in the border region and agreed to continue to explore a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution to the boundary question.

The Prime Minister said both the countries should continue to manage differences with maturity, seek solutions to outstanding issues, should be sensitive to each other’s interests and strengthen mutual trust and confidence.

He said Chinese leadership was receptive on issue of trade imbalance as he raised the issue with them. He said, both the countries have decided to expand bilateral relationship beyond Delhi.

Chinese Premier Le Keqiang said China is ready to take measures to address trade imbalance with India. Keqiang said both the countries share the commitment to regional stability. The Premier said we need to seize the opportunity so that India and China play a bigger role in Asia and beyond.
