PM Should Come Out With Tangible Proposal To Break Deadlock: Cong

Holding the Government responsible for the ongoing logjamin Parliament, the Congress today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come out with a tangible proposal to break the deadlock.
Dismissing efforts being made by the Government to resolve the impasse, AICC spokepserson and Deputy Leasder of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma said, ”the stalemate in Parliament is because of the arrogance of this Government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made no effort to ensure that Parliament functions efficiently. It is unfortunate that despite the Opposition demand that the PM break his ‘Maun Vrat’ (silence), he hasn’t done this so far.”
Asked if the Congress would attend an all-party meeting called by the Government to break the stalemate, Sharma said,”we are not interested in photo-op. First tell us what action is being taken on our demands.
”Congress could attend an all-party meeting if the PM comes out with tangibleproposal to break the deadlock in Parliament.”
Sharma said, ”it is the responsibility of the Government to ensure that the Parliament runs smoothly.
”We made it clear in the meeting with the Speaker that it is up to the Government to ensure that Parliament runs efficiently,” Sharma said. ”The Government has no legislative agenda in the Parliament. This shows the seriousness of this Government,” Sharma said.
On the charge by Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha Arun jaitleythat the Congress was interested in disruption, not discussion, Sharma said, ”before levelling allegations on the Congress, Jaitley should look at his own role when in they were in the Opposition.
Between 2009 and 2014, 900 hours of Parliament business were lost due to disruptions by the BJP, then in opposition.” On the BJP charge that the Congress was not serious about tackling terrorism, Sharma said,”the Congress does not need any advise from the BJP and the RSS on the issue of terrorism.”
Both the House of Parliament today witnessed continued uproar by the Congress on the demand for resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the Lalitgate and Vyapam issues. The Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha witnessed repeated adjournments on the issue and were eventually adjourned for the day.
