President Pranab Mukherjee To Leave Today On 5-Day Visit To Sweden, Belarus

President Pranab Mukherjee will leave on a five-day visit to Sweden and Belarus today.

In the first leg of his visit, Mukherjee will arrive in Sweden where he will meet the King Carl Gustaf, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven and Speaker of the Swedish Parliament. Our Correspondent covering the visit reports that this is the first visit by any Indian President to Sweden.

The aim of the visit is to strengthen Sweden’s long term political, economic and cultural ties with India. The main themes of the visit are innovations and sustainable development with a focus on Urban Development, Science and Research and emphasis on life science .

During the visit of the President the two countries are expected to sign agreements on Urban Development, academics , health and in the field of Micro , Small and Medium Enterprises .The President will also hold talks on different issues for implementation of Make In India programme in which Swedish have big capabilities .

Sweden is the third largest trade partner of India. The President’s visit is also expected to lay the ground for increasing trade and investment between the two countries.

In the second leg of his visit, Mukherjee will reach Belarus on Tuesday. The President is accompanied by a high level delegation of Parliamentarians and representatives from business and education sector.
