Punjab-Haryana High court To Hear Case Of Moga Molestation , Death Of Dalit Girl

The Punjab and Haryana High Court will Monday hear the case of molestation and death of a girl in Moga district of Punjab.

The court has taken a suo motu cognisance of a letter written to it on the incident, in which a 13-year-old girl died after being allegedly thrown off a bus by her molesters.

The victim and her mother were thrown off the moving bus allegedly by a group of men, including the conductor, after they resisted molestation attempts on Wednesday last.

Meanwhile, the logjam in the Moga incident has ended as her family cremated her body yesterday evening after the postmortem. The bus of Orbit bus service belonged to ruling Badal family.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal met the father and other members of the victim’s family in Moga and offered condolence Sunday .

Describing the demise of the hapless girl as tragic, Badal said that being the Chief Minister of the state and a father figure, he is personally responsible for safeguarding the honor of every daughter of Punjab. He assured exemplary punishment to anyone tries to outrage the honour of the daughter of the state.

Later, the cremation was held at girl’s native village Landikay in the district under heavy police cover as the crowd shouted anti government slogans at the cremation ground.

Media Advisor to Chief Minister Harcharan Bains has said that the entire amount of ex-gratia relief and compensation to the tune of Rs 24 lakh be borne by the concerned bus company. Punjab government has decided to offer a government job to one of the family members of the victim.
