Ruckus In Odisha Assembly Over Issue Of Distress Sale Of Patato

The Odisha Assembly Monday witnessed repeated adjournments over the issue of distress sale of potato as the state government failed to procure the tuber from local farmers.
The issue was raised by members of both treasury bench and the opposition who urged Speaker Niranjan Pujari to issue a direction to the government to protect farmers’ interests.
Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said that the issue of distress sale of potato is a serious matter and the state government can’t sit idle regarding this.
The opposition Congress legislators rushed to the well of the House demanding a ruling from the Speaker. S
ome of them tried to climb upto the podium of the speaker. Later, the Speaker called an all party meeting attended by leader of opposition, ministers in-charge of parliamentary affairs, cooperation, agriculture, food and supplies and leader of BJP legislature party.
It has been decided to hold a meeting under the chairmanship of cooperation minister to resolve the issue.
