SAG: India’s medal count escalates to 298

Continuing the golden run, India took their medal tally to 298 with 181 golds, 87 silver and 30 bronze at the 12th South Games here Sunday.
In handball, Indian men and women team clinched the gold in respective categories.In a closely contested men’s final between India and Pakistan, India avenged for its defeat to Pakistan in the 2010 Dhaka SAG to win the gold by 32-31.
The Indian men managed to win the first half by 15-11 and the margin proved to be useful for the eventual winners.India went down 17-20 to Pakistan in the second half, but the lead by four in the first half ensured that the host clinched the gold.The women’s team of India brought home the gold as the event was introduced in the section for the first time in the 12th SAG here.Pakistan managed to win the bronze, beating Nepal 28-24.
In Kabaddi, India swept the two golds in men and women kabaddi, successfully defending its title in both categories.The men’s team secured the gold by beating Pakistan 9-7.The first half of the match had ended with 5 points each. However, India played dominantly in the second half, winning it 4-2 and bagging the match 9-7.
The bronze was secured by Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In women’s final, India defeated Bangladesh 36-12 to win the gold with a convincing margin.Indian eves dominated the match all through, securing 21 and 15 points in the first and second half respectively.Bangladesh could manage seven and five points in the two halves respectively, settling for the silver.Sri Lanka and Nepal had secured the bronze in women’s Kabaddi.
India made a clean sweep of all golds in the shooting events on final day of competition at the ongoing 12th South Asian Games here Monday.
The women team secured the gold in 10m air pistol, while the mens team won the gold in 25m rapid fire pistol for India. In the individual events, India clinched the gold in 25m rapid fire pistol for men and in 10m air pistol for women.
In 25m rapid fire pistol for men, Gurpreet Singh secured the gold for India while Vijay Kumar picked the bronze for the country.
Ghulam Mustafa Bashir of Pakistan notched the silver in the event.
In 10m air pistol for women, India made a clean sweep of all the medals.
Sweta Singh won the gold for the country, while the silver and bronze were clinched by Heena Sidhu and Yashaswini Singh Deswal respectively.
In womens 10m air pistol team event, the Indian team of Heena Sidhu, Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Sweta Singh won the gold.
The Bangladesh team of Ardiina Ferdous, Armin Asha and Turning Dewan won the silver. The bronze was notched by R Abeymanna, KGAK Kariyawasam and KSCG Kendawala for Sri Lanka.
The gold in 25m rapid fire pistol for men team was clinched by Indias Vijay Kumar, Gurpreet Singh and Akshay Suhas Ashaputre.
The silver was won by Ghulam Mustafa Bashir, Maqbool Hussain Tabassum and Muhammad Khalil Akhtar for Pakistan. Sri Lankas ‘ WMK Kumara, MP Pathirana and RKDDAS Rathnayaka secured the bronze.
