Salman Khan Retracts Controversial Tweet On Yakub Memon With Apology

After creating a controversy posting series of tweets about the death sentence of 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts convict Yakoob Memon and the statewide uproar, Bollywood actor Salman Khan Sunday apologized unconditionally over the act and retracted his tweets.

The actor had shown sympathy towards Yakoob Memon and said that instead of Yakoob, his brother Tiger Memon should be hanged in his series of tweets.

“I have not said or implied that Yakub Memon is innocent. I have complete faith in the judicial system of our country. Many lives were lost in the Mumbai blasts. And I have repeatedly said the loss of one innocent life is equal to the loss of all humanity,” he said in a series of tweets.

“My dad called and said I should retract my tweets as they have the potential to create misunderstanding. I here by retract them. I would like to unconditionally apologise for any misunderstanding I may have created unintentionally,” he added.

“I also strongly condemn those who are claiming my tweets are anti religious. I have always said I respect all faiths and I always will,” he added.

Public prosecutor Ujwal Nikam had also raised strong objections and threatened to file a case of contempt of court if the actor did not retract his tweet. Party workers of Shiv Sena had protested against Salman in Satara in the afternoon.

Mumbai BJP members protested outside Salman’s house at Bandra in Mumbai in the evening. They were demanding his unconditional apology. Police had to take strong action to control the protestors. A woman protestor is said to be injured in lathi charge.
