SC To Hear Plea To Implement Reforms In Scandal-Hit BCCI

The Supreme Court Friday decided to hear the plea of the Cricket Association of Bihar to implement the recommendations of the Justice RM Lodha panel on reforms in the scandal-hit Board of Control for Cricket in India.

A division bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Tirath Singh Thakur, said that the date of hearing of the CAB plea would be given later today after the counsel of the state board mentioned the matter for an urgent hearing. Sources in the Registry said that the matter is most likely to be heard by the Apex Court next week.

After a thorough investigation of the spot fixing scandal which rocked Indian cricket, the apex court-appointed Justice Lodha panel had suggested suspension of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for a period of two years from participating in the Indian Premier League. The panel had submitted its report to the Supreme Court on January 4.

The three-member panel, while recommending far reaching reforms in the BCCI, had suggested a bar on ministers and politicians from holding positions, a cap on the age and tenure of the office-bearers and legalising betting.

The Lodha panel also had recommended the restructuring of the BCCIs administrative set-up, institutional body and proposed the position of a Chief Executive Officer accountable to a nine-member apex council.
