Separate Law Soon To Penalize Agencies Polluting Ganga : TVSN Prasad

The government will soon come up with a separate set of law to restricting sewage discharge in the Ganga and penalizing those who are polluting it.

Addressing a media conference in New Delhi, Mission Director of National Mission on Clean Ganga, TVSN Prasad said there are four drafts of proposed law which are under consideration and government will soon take final call on it.

He said that the law will works as a deterrent to save the river form the pollution. Prasad said the governments will spend 62 percent of allocated budget for sewage infrastructure for 118 urban local bodies along the river Ganga, which are the main source of pollution.

He said in order to ramp up the process the centre will now take over 100 percent funding of various projects under this programme.

The government is also planning to establish a 4 battalion of Ganga Eco Task force and Ganga Volunteer Corp with an aim to check pollution and protect the river. The centre will also start 8 pilot projects in the next month to clean the surface of river.

Earlier the government has approved the flagship Namami Ganga program which integrates the effort to clean and protect the Ganga river in Comprehensive manner.

The programme has earmarked 20,000 crore for this project in the next five years. The government incurred an overall expenditure of approximately 4000 crores on this task since 1985.
